Laos: The Elephant Whisperers
Walk in the footsteps of the ancient monks at Wat Phu—the oldest continuously operating Buddhist monastery in Laos and potentially one of the oldest in Asia—to seek out age-old wisdom and truths. Nestled in the heart of Southeast Asia, the landlocked country of Laos, offers a peaceful escape with its lush jungles, majestic waterfalls, and ancient temples. Laos is often dubbed ‘Land of a Million Elephants’, due to the belief in local culture that elephants are a symbol of prosperity.
Venture into a serene world where time slows down and nature takes centre stage. Whether you’re wandering through the historic town of Luang Prabang—once the capital of the ancient Lao kings—a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1995—cruising down the Mekong River, or exploring the mysterious Plain of Jars, Laos offers a rich blend of cultural heritage and natural beauty. The capital city of Vientiane, home to the iconic golden stupa or Pha That Luang; also boasts a vibrant night market that offers a chance to explore handicrafts and sample street food.
The warm hospitable Lao people, and the laid-back pace of life, makes Laos a perfect destination for travellers seeking authenticity and tranquillity at any of the world class accommodation options available in this mystical mountainous landscape.
The weather in Laos is similar to that in Cambodia, presenting two seasons; the dry season, which runs from October through May, and the wet season from May/June through September. Within the dry season you have the cooler months of December through February and then the temperatures steadily climb from March through May.
